The Genesee County Road Commission used the planned resurfacing of a one-mile segment of Van Slyke Road in Flint Township, MI, as an opportunity to incorporate operational and safety improvements into the corridor. Based on current traffic use, it was determined that the number of lanes could be reduced without affecting its level of service. The hot-mix asphalt paving project was honored with an Asphalt Paving Award of Excellence for projects between 2,500 and 10,000 tons by the Asphalt Pavement Association of Michigan (APAM) on February 26, 2021. Projects were judged based on appearance, smoothness of the ride, texture uniformity, joints and edges, approaches, utility covers, and degree of difficulty.
Wade Trim designed the conversion of the 4- to 3-lane roadway between Maple and Bristol Roads featuring a shared center turn lane to streamline traffic flow and provide safer access to driveways and residential streets along the road. Pavement milling, concrete joint repairs, drainage structure improvements, miscellaneous curb and gutter replacement, and new traffic signage and pavement marking were also completed. This is a Michigan Department of Transportation Local Agency Program resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation project.
