Zuzanna Sobczak, PE, ENV SP, has been honored by the Zweig Group as a 2024 Rising Star in the AEC Industry. This award recognizes younger professionals whose exceptional technical capability, leadership, teaching, or research has benefited their employers, clients, and community.
Committed to water resource protection and conservation, Zuzanna’s civil and environmental expertise has contributed to water, wastewater, sanitary sewer, and stormwater management improvements in large urban areas. As a Structural Engineer, she provides technical planning, design, and construction support for combined sewer and wastewater collection systems, pump stations, and water and stormwater designs. Zuzanna has experience in BIM and 3D modeling and assists with hydrologic and hydraulic models. She is an integral member of design teams for large, combined sewer overflow (CSO) projects in busy, downtown areas of Ohio, Nebraska, and New York that will protect their regions’ water and enhance public health and safety.
Beyond her professional work, Zuzanna is deeply involved in the engineering community and various nonprofit organizations. She serves on the Board of Directors as Secretary for the Municipal Engineers of New York City (MENY). As a MENY Sponsorship Committee member and Scholarship Committee chair, she has helped triple scholarship funds for students from local colleges and universities over the past 2 years. Zuzanna is also active in the New York Water Environment Association, the Water Environment Federation, and the Smart Water Networks Forum. In addition, Zuzanna supports youth and community programs through the Prescod Institute for Sport, Teamwork, and Education Academy, where she coaches fencing and helps organize events. She volunteers with the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal of East Harlem, the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, and the Order of Malta, dedicating her time to assisting those in need.
Zuzanna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering from Wayne State University.
