Located along Detroit’s Riverfront adjacent to the Ambassador Bridge, Riverside Park’s 29 acres have undergone phased renovations to increase the park’s recreational value to residents and visitors. The final phases focused on expanding the southwest park boundary, increasing river frontage and access for shore fishing, and connecting to other riverfront greenways. New amenities include a splash pad, playground area, outdoor gym, shelters, sledding hill, amphitheater, comfort station, and concession area. In addition, extensive environmental remediation addressed soil contamination related to the site’s former commercial and industrial activities to protect park users.
Wade Trim’s design services included site analysis of existing conditions, site planning and layout, grading design and site balancing, stormwater drainage and flood control, utility design and coordination, landscape design, electrical design, structural design, permitting assistance, and construction assistance. Pavements, walkways, landscaping materials, and drainage solutions were selected to promote ease of maintenance and longevity for park operations. We worked closely with the City’s General Services Department Landscape Architects to determine the most functional layout for all park amenities and prepared plan packages for permitting and construction.
