The Allegheny County Airport Authority has approved a concept design for the Terminal Modernization Program at Pittsburgh International Airport to streamline airport operations and create a stronger aesthetic tie to the surrounding area. The team of HDR + Gensler, in association with luis vidal + architects, is designing a new terminal that reflects Pittsburgh’s character and is adaptable to changing technological and transportation needs. Wade Trim is designing underground utilities for the project that include water, fire water supply system, sanitary sewer, and natural gas.

The goal of the modernization program is to create a more efficient and enjoyable experience for passengers by consolidating landside and airside operations into one connected facility. The current airport layout features a terminal system with arrival and departure flights separate from ground transportation and baggage claim. The new terminal will be built between Concourses C and D and is scheduled to open in 2023. Learn more about the terminal redesign concept at pittransformed.com.
