The Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) 2045 Michigan State Long-Range Transportation Plan, also known as Michigan Mobility 2045 (MM2045), provides a multimodal vision for the state’s transportation network to improve safety, infrastructure conditions, and system reliability over the next 25 years. Finalized in 2021, MM2045 is the first of its kind to include two federally-required documents—the State Rail Plan and State Freight Plan—in support of a holistic approach to Michigan’s transportation planning. The American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/Michigan) recently honored the team that developed the plan with its MDOT/ACEC Partnership Charter Award, which recognizes project managers and consultants for promoting enhanced business partnerships based on the MDOT/ACEC Partnership Charter Agreement.
As part of the MM2045 consultant team led by prime WSP, Wade Trim conducted safety planning research by reviewing current safety literature and initiatives in Michigan and 10 peer states. Goals, objectives, performance measures, and strategies were evaluated to recommend goals and strategies to incorporate into Michigan’s plan. Our transportation and planning professionals also prepared Michigan’s first statewide Active Transportation Plan in collaboration with MDOT and WSP. “MM2045 Active Transportation Plan: A Bold Vision” is a standalone supplement to MM2045 that supports connected active transportation infrastructure such as shared-use paths and trails, bike lanes, and sidewalks, and highlights opportunities and implementation strategies to improve safe, connected, active transportation in Michigan.
