Seeking to keep up with demand in the Gulf Coast region, Allegheny Petroleum Products Company is more than doubling the size of its manufacturing and logistics plant in Angleton, TX, to 75,000 square feet on 11 acres. The company, which has operations in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Texas, and Jamaica, is one of the largest fuel additive manufacturers in North America. Wade Trim is leading the multi-year Angleton Expansion Project, which features site development, stormwater management, fire protection, building design, and new roadway access.
Though conceptual planning and studies were completed for the project in 2016, Hurricane Harvey hit in 2017, spurring development of new stormwater ordinances and regulations for the region. The project’s planned stormwater management and conveyance system had to be redesigned to comply with the new requirements. Three stormwater ponds that are hydraulically linked via culverts were integrated into the site to handle a 100-year, 24-hour storm event and comply with new tailwater requirements from the Texas Department of Transportation. As owner representative and lead designer, Wade Trim also completed plans that incorporated site layout, paving, grading, water distribution, firewater, and system design. The expansion team included subconsultants for architecture, geotechnical, and survey.
The design process culminated in a plan package and specifications for bidding. A contractor was chosen in 2020. Throughout construction, we have provided contract administration, change orders, pay applications, and weekly virtual status updates to facilitate consistent communication with all stakeholders. The expansion is expected to be complete in fall of 2021. We are also assisting Allegheny Petroleum with growth and expansion projects at other sites.
