Our hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling team is expanding in Pittsburgh to better support wet weather and wastewater management projects. Khalid Khan, PE, D.WRE, PMP, and Ross Volkwein, PE, joined our Water Resources Group, and are supporting our clients locally and in the northeast. Both engineers have expertise in combined sewer overflow (CSO) control and stormwater management using the latest modeling tools.
Khalid specializes in H&H modeling, watershed studies, and stormwater management. He brings a 19-year track record of developing effective technical approaches and innovations on projects requiring system characterization and evaluation analysis, control measures planning, and alternatives analysis to optimize and phase system improvements. He has served large clients in a program management setting, including the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) and Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) in Pennsylvania, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), and the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) in Michigan. Khalid recently earned his Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) Board Certification from the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers in recognition of his leadership in the field of water resources engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Roorkee, India, and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Ross has excelled in stormwater modeling, flow monitoring plans, and H&H modeling of wastewater conveyance and water distribution systems over the past 10 years. He brings additional experience in surface water, watershed modeling, and MS4 programs. Ross’s advanced knowledge of using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in a wide range of engineering applications supports clients’ asset management, web GIS applications, H&H projects, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) surveys. He has worked with municipalities and authorities in the greater Pittsburgh region, including the Kiski Valley Water Pollution Control Authority, Erie Water Works, and Hampton-Shaler Water Authority. Ross earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
